About Dr. Urbanic
Dr. James Urbanic is a Professor in the Division of Radiation Oncology and serves as Vice Chair of Academic Affairs. He is the Medical Director of our Encinitas Treatment Facility as well as the UC San Diego Program Director at the California Proton Center, an Affiliate of the UC San Diego Health Cancer Network.
A dedicated Clinical Trialist, Dr. Urbanic, has been a leader in multiple national Cooperative Groups including Alliance and NRG, having served as study chair and/or principal investigator on Lung Cancer and CNS tumor clinical trials. He is currently Co-Lead of the Lung Cancer Disease Team in the Moores Cancer Center.
Dr. Urbanic has considerable experience in cutting-edge radiation technologies including intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IMRT), image-guided radiotherapy (IGRT), stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT), stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) and proton therapy and has clinics at our Encinitas Facility, the California Proton Center and the Moores Cancer Center, where he participates in a multi-disciplinary lung cancer clinic. He has been recognized as a Best Doctor in America and selected as Teacher of the Year by the UC San Diego Radiation Oncology residents.
