About Dr. Tringale
Dr. Kathryn Tringale is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Radiation Oncology and a member of the RMAS Research Center for Precision Radiation Medicine (CPRM). She serves as Co-Leader of the CNS and Pediatric Cancer Disease Teams and is also a member of the Hematologic Disease Team at the UC San Diego Moores Cancer Center. Her clinical practice spans the Moores Cancer Center in La Jolla, the Hillcrest (McGrath) Outpatient Building, and the California Protons Cancer Therapy Center, where she is the Director of the Spine Tumor Program.
A dedicated clinical and translational researcher, Dr. Tringale focuses on applying advanced imaging to improve cancer treatment planning, optimize delivery, and enhance post-treatment monitoring, with the goal of predicting, identifying, and reducing normal tissue toxicity. She has authored more than 70 peer-reviewed publications in leading journals including JAMA, JAMA Oncology, Journal of the National Cancer Institute (JNCI), Cancer, and Lancet Oncology.
Her research has been recognized with the Moores Cancer Center Early-Stage Clinical Investigator Award and the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) Young Investigator Award, for which she serves as Principal Investigator (PI) on a clinical trial evaluating the neurotoxic effects of CAR T-cell therapy. She is the PI of a prospective clinical trial testing novel radiation planning approaches with volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) for total body irradiation prior to stem cell transplant in hematologic cancers, as well as the PI of a national Society of Interventional Oncology (SIO) clinical trial evaluating the combination of radiation therapy and ablation for metastatic disease. Dr. Tringale is an active member of the American Society for Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) and the Children’s Oncology Group, where she contributes to clinical trial design and implementation.
In addition to her research and clinical leadership, Dr. Tringale is deeply committed to education and mentorship. She teaches and trains undergraduate and graduate students, residents, and postdoctoral fellows in the classroom, clinic, and laboratory, and has received multiple awards for her teaching and mentorship.
