About Dr. Mayadev
Dr. Jyoti Mayadev is a Professor, Vice Chair of Developmental Therapeutics, Section Chief of Gynecologic Oncology, and Co-Leader of the Gynecologic Oncology Disease Team at the Moores NCI-Designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, University of California, San Diego. She also serves as Director of Gynecologic Brachytherapy, overseeing all clinical and translational research aspects of image-guided brachytherapy for gynecologic cancers, and is an active member of the Breast Cancer Disease Team. A nationally recognized leader in gynecologic radiation oncology, Dr. Mayadev bridges clinical expertise and translational research to advance therapeutic strategies for women with gynecologic malignancies, particularly those with cervical cancer.
Dr. Mayadev’s research focuses on the development of national clinical trials in cervical cancer, early-phase therapeutic studies, and novel combinations of immunotherapy with chemoradiation. The Mayadev Laboratory continues to develop innovations that improve outcomes and survival in cervical cancer, and has garnished over $4.5 million in grant funding from the NCI, NRG Oncology, Curebound, Moores Cancer Center, Varian Medical Systems, and Koman for the Cure. Dr. Mayadev currently serves as Co-Chair of the NCI-funded NRG Oncology Cervical Cancer Committee and is the national principal investigator for GOG 9929, NRG GY017, and NRG GY037—phase I and III NCI funded clinical trials investigating immunotherapy with chemoradiation for locally advanced cervical cancer to improve outcomes. Her collaborative R01 grant, Immunogenomic Predictors of Outcomes in Patients with Locally Advanced Cervical Cancer Treated with Immunotherapy and Chemoradiation, builds upon biospecimens from NRG GY017, while her funded NCI R50 grant, NCI Clinical Trial Research Strategy, Harnessing of Equity, and Implementation, aims for innovative science in clinical trials. Dr. Mayadev also served as co-principal investigator of the global phase III CALLA trial, the largest study to date evaluating immunotherapy with radiation in cervical cancer with biospecimens to study ctDNA correlation to response.
Before joining UC San Diego in 2017, Dr. Mayadev served as Director of Brachytherapy at UC Davis, where she initiated the image-guided brachytherapy program and led gynecologic and breast oncology research. She completed her radiation oncology residency as Chief Resident at the University of Washington Medical Center and launched her laboratory shortly thereafter. Over her career, she has performed more than 8,000 brachytherapy procedures, published over 200 peer review publications with high impact journals such as Lancet Oncology, Nature Communications, Jama Oncology, Journal of Clinical Oncology, Annals of Oncology, and founded/edited The Handbook of Image Guided Brachytherapy. She has been honored with numerous awards, including the NRG Oncology Outstanding Service Award, ASTRO GYN Chair appointment, Deans Team Award, and Educator of the Year twice.
