About Dr. Gillespie
Dr. Erin Gillespie is an Associate Professor at the University of Washington (UW) Department of Radiation Oncology with a secondary appointment in the UCSD Department of Radiation Medicine & Applied Sciences, Division of Radiation Oncology. She is also a member of the RMAS Center for Health Equity Education and Research (CHEER).
A clinician–scientist specializing in radiation treatment for breast cancer and metastatic disease, she serves as programmatic lead for Implementation Science in the UW Department of Radiation Oncology at UW School of Medicine, she focuses on studying variation in care and developing strategies to ensure equitable, high-quality radiation therapy access—regardless of patient location or background. She practices at the Fred Hutch Cancer Center.
Dr. Gillespie’s research portfolio centers on implementation science in radiation oncology, including: 1) Understanding and reducing disparities in treatment delivery, 2) Enhancing care quality through tools such as eContour (digital contouring support), peer-review workflows, audit mechanisms, AI, and telemedicine , and 3) Leading pragmatic clinical trials aimed at optimizing treatment adoption and improving implementation metrics. Her overarching mission aligns clinical innovation with real-world implementation, striving to close gaps in care and expand reach.
