About Dr. Nodora
Dr. Jesse Nodora is an Associate Professor in the Departments of Radiation Medicine & Applied Sciences (RMAS) and Family Medicine and Public Health. He serves as the Associate Director (Community Outreach and Engagement) at the Moores Cancer Center and is a member of the RMAS Center for Health Equity Education and Research (CHEER).
In his various leadership roles, Dr. Nodora leads efforts in primary cancer prevention with a particular focus on underserved and low-income populations. His work spans community- and systems-level interventions—including enhancing patient-provider communication, improving health literacy, and deploying community health worker programs to reduce barriers to preventive care. Notably, he has been recognized as an American Cancer Society Mentored Research Scholar (2012–2016), during which time he evaluated patient navigation strategies to reduce delays between abnormal Pap test findings and diagnostic follow-up in Latino/Hispanic women within community health settings.
His scholarship emphasizes health behavior change, equity-focused cancer prevention, and community engagement. His projects aim to develop practical interventions that can be deployed across multiple systems—from healthcare to government and nonprofit sectors—to improve access, promote healthy behaviors, and mitigate chronic disease disparities, particularly in the context of cancer. He is also exploring approaches to increase minority participation in clinical trials, including educational strategies for healthcare teams working with Hispanic breast cancer patients
