About Dr. McKay
Dr. Rana R. McKay is a Professor in the Departments of Radiation Medicine& Applied Sciences (RMAS), Medicine and Urology. She serves as the Associate Director of Clinical Science at the Moores Cancer Center.
She leads UCSD Health’s multidisciplinary prostate cancer clinic, providing comprehensive, evidence-based care for patients with prostate, kidney, bladder, and testicular cancer, staffed by urologists, medical oncologists and radiation oncologists. As a highly respected clinician, she is committed to translating emerging science into personalized treatment plans—anchored in compassion and precision.
A prolific clinical investigator, Dr. McKay advances the field through leadership of early-phase trials in kidney and prostate cancer and close examination of therapeutic response and resistance mechanisms. Her work is widely published in top-tier journals such as Nature, The Lancet, Journal of Clinical Oncology, Clinical Cancer Research, and Cancer. Her impactful career and mentorship have earned recognition, including the 2023 Kidney Cancer Association (KCA) Trailblazer Award and the 2024 Christopher G. Wood Rising Star Award at IKCS Europe
