About Dr. Gupta
Dr. Samir Gupta is a Professor in the Department of Medicine (Division of Gastorenterology) and Radiation Medicine & Applied Sciences. He serves as a Staff Physician in the GI Section at the San Diego VA Medical Center. Additionally, he is the Co-Lead of the Cancer Control Program at the Moores Cancer Center.
Clinically, Dr. Gupta specializes in comprehensive general gastroenterology with a focused expertise in colorectal cancer screening, prevention, and management of hereditary colorectal cancer syndromes such as Lynch syndrome and familial adenomatous polyposis.
Dr. Gupta’s scholarly contributions center on reducing the burden of gastrointestinal cancer, particularly colorectal cancer, through rigorous screening, surveillance, and prevention studies. He has led randomized controlled trials aimed at increasing screening uptake among underserved populations, and conducted large-scale epidemiologic research, including a VA Merit Review project analyzing colonoscopy outcomes across more than 2 million veterans. His research is supported by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and the Department of Veterans Affairs.
