For Referring Physicians

As the only academic Radiation Oncology Department in the greater San Diego area, UCSD offers referring physicians a unique alternative.

Dr. Mundt and his faculty of physicians and physicists are acknowledged experts and leaders in the field, both clinically and in terms of research.  The UCSD Department of Radiation Oncology is equipped with the latest technologies, ensuring that patients are treated with state-of-the-art techniques.

The Department is an integral member of the Rebecca and John Moores Comprehensive Cancer Center, the only NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer center in the region offering patients access to the latest clinical trials and protocols.

Most importantly, however, the entire UCSD Staff is committed to providing state-of-the-art care while never forgetting that the patient is an individual with special needs and concerns.

Please call and ask to speak to a staff Radiation Oncologist if you wish to discuss a potential referral or if you have a question about one of our treatment programs and procedures.

What can you expect?

  • Prompt Consultation

Your patient will be seen with 3-5 days.
Urgent cases can be seen sooner upon request.

  • Rapid Feedback

You will be contacted within 24 hours of the consult to discuss the case

  • Complete Records

You will receive a full consultation report and, if your patient undergoes treatment, a detailed summary of the treatment performed for your records

  • Involvement

All treatment options will be discussed with you prior to their initiation

  • No Loss of Control

You will always remain the primary physician.
You alone will decide if other UCSD physicians consult on your patient.
We appreciate that a common concern with referring to an academic center is the loss of control.
