Faculty Physicists in Radiation Oncology The University of California, San Diego Department of Radiation Oncology, is seeking 2 faculty physicists at the Assistant or Associate Professor level to join the staff at the Moores Cancer Center. Salary will be based on the established salary schedule of the UCSD School of Medicine Faculty Compensation Plan. The qualified individuals will have a Ph.D. in Medical Physics, Physics or equivalent field with at least one year of clinical experience in radiation oncology. Graduates from Medical Physics Residency programs will also be considered. The ideal candidates will have a demonstrated publication and teaching record. The majority of responsibilities will include clinical service, research/scholarship, and teaching. The successful candidate will join a team of 7 physicians, 5 physicists, 4 dosimetrists, and 2 IT/Computer specialists. The Moores Cancer Center is one of only 39 NCI Designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers. Equipment currently includes two Varian dual-energy linear accelerators with Millennium MLCs and aSi portal imaging, a four-slice large bore GE LightSpeed CT scanner, two Varian RPM gating systems, five Varian Eclipse treatment planning systems for 3D and IMRT treatment planning, one research Eclipse workstation, and four SomaVision workstations for tissue segmentation and plan evaluation. 4DCT is performed for gated treatment planning. One linac is a Trilogy system used for stereotactic radiosurgery, respiratory gating and image-guided therapies. All imaging in the department is digital and connected via the Aria information system from Varian. We have a dedicated HDR brachytherapy suite. A 15,000 sq ft expansion including additional Varian linear accelerators and associated clinical and office space is planned to open in December 2008. There will be opportunities to participate in cutting-edge research in areas such as IGRT and adaptive radiotherapy. A Medical Physics Residency Program will accept its second resident in July 2008.
